Darebin Parklands - Sue Course, Mother of the Park September 20, 2021 10:58
I just read this wonderful book by Sue Course, Lost Letters from Vienna. Sue is a WW2 refugee from Vienna, who advocated for protection of land that created Darebin Parklands in 1973. Sue's family also gave Melbourne the world's best collection of furniture designed by the Austrian architect, Alfred Loos, now held in the NGV.
The book details the history of Sue's extended family and her life, from privileged pre-war Vienna, to escape and establishment here – where Sue and her relatives made a massive contribution to the lives of Melbournians. It's a great personal history.
